Robotic, Coding & Design
This game design program is designed to introduce kids to the fundamentals of game development using GameMaker, a popular and beginner-friendly game development platform.
Over the course of 7 sessions, participants will learn how to create their own games, explore game mechanics, design levels, and unleash their creativity.
Introduction to Game Design and GameMaker
Kids will be introduced to game development and the GameMaker software. They will learn the overview of the GameMaker interface and tools, creating a simple game project and navigating the workspace.
Characters and Movement
Mots will learn about characters, sprites, and objects in game development. By importing and managing sprite assets, kids will create and control objects in GameMaker through basic movement and collision detection.
Game Mechanics
Kids will explore game mechanics and their importance in game design. They will implement player controls and interactions. Through the introduction to variables, kids will add scoring and lives to the game.
Level Design and Environment
Kids will learn the fundamentals of level design and planning. They build levels using the room editor and place objects, obstacles, and power-ups. Though testing, they will iterate the level design of their game.
